The Jesusmonkey tells the story of Cassidy Sullivan, a thirty-three year old gallerist who discovers a diary written in 1855 by her 9-year old great-grandmother, Sustah Sullivan. The diary tells of a lost religious sect, comprised of Native Americans, African-American slaves, and secret groups of women, that worshipped a French Duchess named Dianne Chasseresse who lived along the Gulf of Mexico from 1790-1888. Cassidy enlists a graduate student and forensic scientist to confirm the accuracy of her great-grandmother’s diary. Their findings support the existence of Duchess Dianne through DNA evidence and secret coded messages hidden in historical documents in France, Canada and the United States.
